Food is worth the wait. Often crowded, but so good! Noodle freshly made on premises. Love it.

Fantastic hole in the spot Chinese food spot. The dumplings were definitely fresh with handmade wrappers. The hand pulled noodles were really chewy and we had the szechuan special which was a surprisingly sweet sesame sauce with minced pork, not the typical Dan dan noodle I was expecting but delicious! We were quickly seated with a reservation and the food came out quickly. The servers spoke both mandarin and English and were happy to provide recommendations. A great spot I'd be happy to visit again!

Amazing authentic food!! Love the spicy sesame noodles. The chewy texture is great and i love the sauce. The Szechuan tofu and green beans are also really great. And of course can't forget the scallion pancakes. I've had takeout from here a few times and it's always a hit!

Decided on Chinese food for dinner and saw that Shan Dong had delivery on DoorDash. Place must be pretty popular as the delivery time was close to 50 mins. There was so many options it was tough to choose just a couple of dishes. For our order we tried: - Mongolian Beef; 5/5 was very flavorful, well seasoned and had lots of onions and peppers. If ordering take out then recommend you dump it into a bowl to serve because majority of the beef was at the bottom of the container. Dish tasted just as great the next day for lunch. - Lemon Chicken; 3.8/5 good portion of chicken and the sauce definitely had a lemon taste. However the chicken was heavily breaded and seemed like it was mostly thigh meat, but overall the sauce flavor wasn't too impressive. - 6 piece Potstickers; 5/5 amazing dumplings! The potsticker was much bigger than I thought it would be. Chicken filling to wrap ration was great. The chicken filling was very well seasoned and was juicy with each bite. Highly recommend you try it out!

DEFINITELY a hidden gem in Oakland, the service is FAST and the food is made fresh and comes out piping hot! They speak very good English here. We ordered the hot and spicy chow mein with the hand made noodles for +$1, the shan dong chicken and the prawns with candy walnut. The noodles are really dense here. You can watch them make the noodles right at the front of the restaurant, and they use a lot of flour, so that's most likely why it's not as chewy as I thought they would be. They're good, but not amazing. They were actually better after I took them home as leftovers, left them in the fridge and then reheated them in the microwave because they had gotten "soggy" but not actually soggy. Overall, for something that every single review seems to talk about, I didn't think they were all that special. Because they were so dense they also didn't absorb the sauce or any flavor too well, until as mentioned before, as leftovers the next day. I'd pass on the hand made noodles if/when I revisit. The Shan Dong chicken was also nothing too special. It wasn't crispy, and was drowned in a sweet sticky glaze sauce. Good! But I wish it would have somehow stayed a bit crispy before it got to our table. It was still really good, but I would pass on this as well for next time to try something else! San Tung still takes the cake for fried chicken! The Prawns with Candy Walnut was excellent. Not too sweet, not overcooked and had a nice snap to it when you bit into a shrimp. Very delicious, and I'd highly recommend getting this! Overall, for the price, quality and portions, I'd have to give this spot a 5!

My #1 go to for noodles in Oakland. This family-owned gem offers some of the best, most satisfying dishes you can find in the area, and it's a local favorite for good reason! I grew up going to Shan Dong from as young as a toddler and this place is still the same after all these years - tasty hand-pulled noodles and quick service. My favorite is the sesame paste noodles. Prices are on par with everything else you'll find in the area and the portions are huge!

The best veggie dumplings! It's like a gift to have them with their homemade chili crisp oil! I would rather have them over the tan tan anytime! Also best chili oil too!

I am SO happy we decided to come straight here at the beginning of our Oakland adventure! This place's menu was awesome, we were quickly seated with tea and water. Service was also quick and we got food pretty fast, the overall experience was very in line with casual canto cafes! Chicken Broccoli 8/10, really well cooked veggies and good garlic-y flavor. Beef Chow Fun 10/10, honestly probably some of the best beef chow fun I've every had, the beef was cooked perfectly and flavored well with the noodles. Awesome!!! Chicken Dumplings 7/10, very well made and you could see the folks in the kitchen folding them which was a good experience!

This was my first visit. It's a Saturday night and the place was busy. The dining area isn't huge, but they make it seem so by adding wall mirrors. They also have three fans mounted to increase the air flow through the room it doesn't feel stuffy at all. Normally, I order chow fun as my litmus test dish. However, seeing the kitchen staff prepare the housemade noodles, I decided that I ~had~ to try them. I ordered the beef tomato chow mein and opted for the extra $1 to get the house noodles. I also ordered the spicy eggplant dish. Plus a bit of rice. There was already a pot of tea on the table. The food came out very quickly. The noodles looked delectable! Tasted good! Generous portion. Although the sauce was a little sweet, the flavor was good. I liked both dishes.
